About St. Martin's Minotaur
Since
the mid-1950s, publishing mystery novels has been at
the heart of St. Martin's Press. In that time, we have
come to be known as the largest, most prominent mystery
publisher in the book industry. In September of 1999,
St. Martin's Press recognized this successful history
with a new mystery imprint called Minotaur.
The name was suggested by our renowned editor, Ruth Cavin, who loves the symbolism of the Greek mythological figure, the Minotaur, a creature who guarded the fabled labyrinth and devoured anyone who entered (except for Theseus, of course).
It makes perfect sense: a classic name for a classic company's imprint. And Minotaur has classic goals as well: put good books in the hands of readers and booksellers, grow our stable of award-winning authors into bestsellers, and further enhance St. Martin's reputation as the leader in the mystery field. And we promise not to kill anyone doing it!
